Covenant Mission Giving

Mission giving is part of Covenant’s budget, as well as our passion. Over the years, Stewardship and Finance has been steadily increasing the Mission monies that Covenant as a church gives, with the goal of giving 10% of Covenant’s income to Mission projects locally and worldwide. For 2026 we have set aside 9.7% of our budgeted income for Mission.

What exactly does Mission giving mean for Covenant? In our budget we have six categories for mission giving:

General Mission funds support PC(USA) Mission at the General Assembly level (15%), and at the Synod/Presbytery (85%) level. At the Synod/Presbytery level, funds are available to us as Presbytery Partnership Grants.

Theological Education Fund supports the The Theological Education Fund of the Presbyterian Church. This Fund combines gifts from Presbyterians for students at Presbyterian seminaries throughout the U.S.

South Palo Alto Food Closet funds are given directly to our Food Closet, along with your generous individual donations.

Mission CoWorkers. Covenant has supported Mission CoWorkers Sandy and Brian Thompson-Royer in Guatemala, and had been supporting Jed and Jenny Koball in Peru. The PC(USA)’s World Mission has eliminated the MissionCoworker positions, and Jed and Jenny are now Global Ecumenical Partners.  We continue to support their work in Peru.

Local Mission and Global Mission funds are allocated to individual nonprofits and projects that we wish to support. The Mission and Outreach Ministry team meets to discuss, research, and decide which projects we will be supporting for the year.

In 2025, our Local and Global Mission funds supported:

United Campus Christian Ministry

Ecumenical Hunger Program

LifeMoves (InnVision)

Day Worker Center of Mountain View

Heart and Home

Emotions in Harmony

Immanuel House

Second Harvest Food Bank

South Palo Alto Food Closet

Guatemala Microloans

World Central Kitchen

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (Hurricane relief)

Joining Hands - Peru

International Rescue Committee

Church World Service

Heifer International

Rise against Hunger

Covenant's Mission and Outreach team works to discern what projects we wish continue supporting, as well as any new projects that God may lead us to.  This year we have already supported a Rise Against Hunger food packing event at First Presbyterian Palo Alto, and Mikalea Dodge's trip to bring supplies to the Aeta Tribe in the Philippines.

Is there a mission project or group that is meaningful to you? Let someone on Mission and Outreach know!

Beverley Dere,

for Mission and Outreach, and Stewardship and Finance
