"As Iron Sharpens Iron"
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens a friend.
--Proverbs 27:17 (Common English Bible)
This month Covenant celebrates its 75th Anniversary. According to a church history prepared for the 50th Anniversary, the name “Covenant” was chosen “because it was biblical and because it represented the conviction of those present that they were entering into a covenant with one another, with God’s help, to establish a new church.” This took place on September 28, 1951 at a meeting in the home of Larry and Enid Templeton (Bruce Templeton’s parents).
From the very beginning, folks at Covenant have covenanted with one another and partnered with one another in the life and ministry of this church. Over the course of these last 75 years church members and friends have made a tremendous difference in the lives of so many people. We have encouraged each other, comforted each other, celebrated with each other, and helped strengthen each other’s faith. In the words of Proverbs 27:17, “as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens a friend.”
As we prepare for the Anniversary Celebration on October 25th, I would love to hear from you how folks at Covenant have helped “sharpen” you through their prayers, friendship, and support. Who were some of the people at Covenant who inspired you through the years? What were some of the events—mission trips, special celebrations, specific ministries—that helped shape your faith?
With your permission, I would like to include your stories in the 75th Anniversary program that will be printed for the celebration on October 25th. Please email them to me at pastor@covenantpresbyterian.net
I look forward to seeing you each Sunday, and particularly on Sunday, October 25th for the 75th Anniversary Celebration!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jack
