A Letter from the Mission and Outreach Ministry Team

April 28, 2020

Dear Covenant Family and Friends,
We hope you are safe and healthy in these unprecedented times.  We are so thankful for you!  Covenant’s Mission and Outreach Ministry Team recently met to see how Covenant could assist those in our local community who are experiencing housing and food insecurity during this time of crisis. We have allocated $5,000 to send immediately to three local programs that respond to urgent needs for food and essential items.

We invite members and friends of Covenant to join us with individual contributions.  If you are able, please consider adding to Covenant’s support of these crucial assistance providers by writing a check to Covenant Presbyterian Church, indicating on the memo line the name of the organization you wish to support, and mailing your check to the church or dropping it through the mail slot in the Church Office door.  You may also give on the church website, using the Notes to indicate the organization name.

Ecumenical Hunger Program

The Ecumenical Hunger Program provides assistance to families and individuals experiencing economic and personal hardship.  At this time, many families are in dire need and many do not qualify for government assistance. The demand for food resources has skyrocketed to historic levels. During the crisis EHP has temporarily closed all programs except essential food programs. Their workers are on the front lines finding sources and distributing food in a drive through system.

Day Worker Center of Mountain View

The Day Worker Center of Mountain View supports day workers and their families. Without income and traditional worker’s safety nets, many are struggling to pay bills and feed their families. Through this crisis, the Day Worker Center is giving out take away hot breakfast and lunch six days a week to nearly 150 workers, in addition to distributing food packages for workers and families who live in RVs. The Day Worker Center is also helping workers cover rent and crucial bills.

LifeMoves provides safe shelter and vital services to families and individuals experiencing homelessness.  More than 9.000 men, women and children are supported each year in their diligent work to return to stable housing and long-term self sufficiency.  The Opportunity Center and Hotel De Zink are part of LifeMoves.  During the crisis, enhanced meal service safety and sanitary protocols have greatly increased the costs of meals and services.
