Pastor’s Ponderings
October 2025
At our Session and Deacons retreat in June we discussed how important hospitality is to the life of Covenant Presbyterian Church. We saw this in action on September 7th as we welcomed people to “Homecoming Sunday” and afterwards had a barbecue as a Bluegrass band performed table to table.
In October there’s yet another opportunity to welcome members of the wider community to Covenant. On Sunday, October 5th, we will have our annual Blessing of the Animals service. This will take place in the sanctuary during our 10:30 a.m. service. Everyone is welcome to bring their furry, feathery, or scaly friends to worship to receive a blessing. You can also bring pictures of deceased pets for a brief prayer of remembrance. Children can also bring their stuffies.
We hope to welcome friends from the wider community who want to receive a blessing for their animal friends. Please invite friends, family, and neighbors whom you think might be interested in joining us for this special Sunday.
My hope is that in the months ahead we will keep thinking of creative ways to welcome others. And just as Solomon builds the Temple in 1 Kings chapter 5, so we are building a house—welcoming people in the name of Jesus and committing ourselves to discover together what it means to live as disciples of Christ in our own time.
I hope to see you in worship, either in-person or via Zoom.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jack
