Seven Marks of a Vital Congregation

Covenant Presbyterian Church is one of the congregations piloting a new initiative by PC(USA).  Through small groups and Sunday Worship Sermons we have unpacked the marks of a vital congregation:

  1. Lifelong Discipleship

  2. Intentional/Authentic Evangelism

  3. Outward, Incarnational Focus

  4. Empowers Servant Leadership

  5. Spirit-Inspired Worship

  6. Caring Relationships

  7. Ecclesial Health

Beginning the week of October 6, this fall we will continue our work together in Small Groups.  We will meet weekly to rethink the 7 Marks of a Vital Congregation we explored last spring as part of our denomination’s new initiative for Congregational Revitalization.  Reflecting on Biblical passages and contemporary writings, we will work together to re-envision how our congregation is being called to change or implement these 7 Marks of Vitality.  We will also strategize how to practically implement these ideas.

Our congregation was invited to participate in this two year pilot program, and our suggestions will be shared with the denomination so that other congregations will be able to benefit from this tool designed to encourage and strengthen the vitality of the church. We will offer several time frames during the week, beginning the week of October 6, so that everyone can participate.  Please consider joining us as we step out in faith!

Sign up through the Church Office or on Sunday morning.

We are back on our weekly practice schedule for the fall.  The Covenant Ringers will rehearse in the Sanctuary beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The Sanctuary Choir will rehearse at 8:00 p.m. in the Choir Loft.  New members are welcome in both groups.

Our senior members are invited to join us on Saturday, October 26, at 4:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  We especially invite our “most experienced members,” 60+ years of age, to join us to share some timeless music, video clips, and snacks, and learn some dance steps led by Mary Beth Bischoff.  Celebrate God's blessings and greet old and new friends.  Transportation will be provided upon request.

Covenant men now have a CovenantMen mailing list, and all 29 men for whom email addresses are known were sent an invitation to join.  Men should check their email, including spam.  Anyone who hasn't received an invitation should speak to Andrew Cromarty to sort it out and send an invitation to be added to the list.

Covenant men will want to be on this mailing list, because we have lots of men's outings planned in addition to restarting breakfasts for the fall, and this is how we'll communicate.

On October 27, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the Youth will sponsor Trunk or Treat for children in our neighborhood and families and friends of all ages.
