Seven Marks of a Vital Congregation

Covenant Presbyterian Church is one of the congregations piloting a new initiative by PC(USA).  Through small groups and Sunday Worship Sermons we have unpacked the marks of a vital congregation:

  1. Lifelong Discipleship

  2. Intentional/Authentic Evangelism

  3. Outward, Incarnational Focus

  4. Empowers Servant Leadership

  5. Spirit-Inspired Worship

  6. Caring Relationships

  7. Ecclesial Health

We are back on our weekly practice schedule for the fall.  The Covenant Ringers will rehearse in the Sanctuary beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The Sanctuary Choir will rehearse at 8:00 p.m. in the Choir Loft.  New members are welcome in both groups.

Adult Education meetings after the Fellowship hour will resume on January 12 with a review of the results of the congregational survey for the 7 Marks of a Vital Congregation along with a few of the videos suggested in the materials.  On January 19 and 26, John Fisher will lead us through a study of the Book of Ruth.

Watch the Covenant weekly online and your bulletin for more announcements about Adult Education offerings in the future.  If you have particular areas of interest for future topics or would like to lead an Adult Education class, please contact Cindy Sauln.

On Tuesday, January 14, the Morning Circle will meet at 10:30 a.m. and the Evening Circle will meet at 7:00 p.m., both at the Manse.  We will continue our study of Love Carved in Stone: A Fresh Look at the Ten Commandments.

We always welcome newcomers. If you need a copy of the book, contact the Church Office.

Just for Seniors

Covenant's Book Club will meet on Tuesday, January 21, from 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room.  We will discuss Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes.  The author's claim to fame is that she is Mary Lee Templeton's niece!  Evvie Drake is recently widowed.  A friend of her best friend moves into an apartment at the back of Evvie's house, and the relationship that develops is unexpected.

After that, we’ll talk about Lab Girl by Hope Fahren, Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate, and Dot Dead by Keith Raffel.  If you enjoy talking about good books, join us.  Bring along your ideas about other good books for future conversation.  We always welcome newcomers.

Our senior members are invited to join us on Saturday, January 25, at 4:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  We especially invite our “most experienced members,” 60+ years of age, to join us to share some timeless music, video clips, and snacks, and learn some dance steps led by Mary Beth Bischoff.  Celebrate God's blessings and greet old and new friends.  Transportation will be provided upon request.

Men's Group

Covenant men now have a CovenantMen mailing list, and all 29 men for whom email addresses are known were sent an invitation to join.  Men should check their email, including spam.  Anyone who hasn't received an invitation should speak to Andrew Cromarty to sort it out and send an invitation to be added to the list.

Covenant men will want to be on this mailing list, because we have lots of men's outings planned in addition to restarting breakfasts for the fall, and this is how we'll communicate.
