Jesus' Triumphal Entry
Jesus and his disciples were on their way to Jerusalem right before the Passover celebration. Many people came to the temple in Jerusalem for Passover, so the roads were crowded with people. When Jesus and his disciples were near the town of Bethany, Jesus told two of the disciples to go to town and bring back a young donkey they would find there.
He said, “If anyone asks you why you are untying the colt, tell them, “The Lord needs it”.
When the disciples brought the colt to Jesus, they put their cloaks on the donkey’s back to make a saddle. Then Jesus rode the donkey the rest of the way to Jerusalem.
People walking along the way began to recognize Jesus. Some had heard him teach and others had heard of his miracles. The disciples and others took off their cloaks and lay them on the road for Jesus to ride over. They cut branches from trees and waved them, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
