The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has its spiritual roots in the Reformation begun by John
Calvin of Switzerland and refined by John Knox of Scotland. It is a protestant
denomination democratically organized to embrace the faith common to all Christians.
Our name stems from a New Testament word "Presbueteros," which means Elder (a
leader in the church). It refers to our custom of choosing leaders and advisors from among
the wisest members of the church. We understand that every believer has the privilege and
the responsibility to be a minister in everyday life.
- We believe in experienced Christianity. We believe faith is a matter of both the heart
and mind. We seek to balance careful study of theology with a passion for the Lord.
- We believe in Scriptural Christianity. We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of
God and understood to be "the unique authoritative witness" to God's activities
in the world.
- We believe in practical Christianity. We strive to make our faith a part of everyday
life and believe it should guide our behavior and decisions.
- We believe in disciplined Christianity. God calls us to change and grow with regular
prayer, Bible study, attendance at worship, and love and service to others.
- We believe in connectional Christianity. Each individual and Presbyterian congregation
is knit together in mutual concerns, responsibility, and support.
- We believe in an ecumenical Christianity. We join hands with other Christians in doing
God's work.
