Youth Prepare for Missions
Our Covenant youth will have a busy summer after planning and working to prepare for their mission trips.
After considering several options, the youth group selected Hawaii as a mission destination from June 18-24, understanding that the cost would not exceed their personal contributions and fundraising efforts, and the trip would not be a tourist trip. A budget has been developed and reservations made at an Episcopal Church Camp on the island of Oahu, known as The Gathering Place. The youth will work with several congregations on the north side of the island, learning about the history of the church in the Hawaiian Islands and walking with the people to share their faith. They will learn about the Kalaupapa Leper Colony on the nearby island of Molokai and of Father Damien’s work there. They look forward to sharing their experiences with you when they return.
From July 18-23, six of our senior high youth, traveling with others from our Presbytery, will attend the PC(USA) Youth Triennium at Purdue University, participating with 5000 Presbyterian youth from around the U.S. in an event that happens every three years. The 2016 Presbyterian Youth Triennium will explore “GO” in a daily “thematic mapping” through various experiences of people in scripture.
