Celebrating 60 Years of Ministry
How do you go about celebrating six decades of ministry? Searching through the
treasures and old photos that commemorate our life together in ministry, it seems a daunting task. Sixty years signify for us over three thousand Worship Services, more than a thousand Baptisms and Celebrations of the Lord’s Supper, and countless weddings and memorial services.
If we add potlucks, Yule log festivities, Christmas pageants, Vacation Bible School,
Youth Mission Trips, Women’s Circles, Men’s Fellowship, Sunday School, the Sewing Circle, Music Ministry and numerous outreach projects to our community and beyond, we have a brilliant tapestry that describes all that has taken place in the Family of God
since we became a chartered congregation.
During the next few months as we move toward the anniversary date that marks our beginning, I would like for you to prayerfully consider several things:
Think about those who have given us this legacy, recalling the names of those who have gone before us. Consider the gifts of time and talents that have brought us to this time and place. Think not only of pastors and obvious leaders, but of those who worked patiently and quietly behind the scenes.
Think about the possibilities for ministry in this time and place. Consider what God might have in store for this faith community as we move into the next six decades. What legacy might we leave? How might you be a part of giving this gift to future generations?
As I think about my time with you, I am amazed that it has been a year since I first came into your warm and welcoming presence. What a privilege it is for me to be a partner with you in ministry.
It is exciting to stand at this moment in time as we gaze back at the years that have led us to the juncture while at the same time looking ahead to a future that beckons us on. May God continue to guide us and bless us as we make this journey together.
Shalom, Margaret
