Food Closet

South Palo Alto Food Closet

Covenant's Fellowship Hall hosted a volunteer appreciation luncheon on Thursday, April 19.  For 33 years, the Food Closet has been entirely staffed by volunteers, and this event was to celebrate their dedication to feeding needy families.

Jane Bernstein, along with help from Teri Jara, Jennifer Espinoza and Natalia Tanojo, prepared and served a delicious lunch, allowing the volunteers to just enjoy celebrating.  Local merchants, including Piazza's, Peet's, Safeway, Trader Joe's, SummerWinds Nursery and Palo Alto Plumbing and Heating, donated door prizes.  Additional door prizes were tickets to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, and some beautiful wreaths handmade by Lynne Brown.

Thank you, Covenant, for your continuing support for the Food Closet on First Sunday Food days, and any other day!  Hot and cold cereal are among the most needed items in the Food Closet these days.  Cooking oil, mayonnaise, jams and jellies, and canned chicken breast and sardines are also greatly appreciated by clients.  In addition to receiving the Rotary Club grant money to purchase shelving for storage in Room 8 when it becomes available, the Food Closet will receive $1,000 from the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund.
