From its beginnings, Covenant Presbyterian Church has been a family church and a church family. We value the diversity in our backgrounds and families and ages and the particular gifts each of us brings to the texture of our church family relationships. Our worship, study, and programs nourish children, youth, adults, and all of us together. We enjoy worshiping together on Sunday mornings and in special seasons. We love visiting with each other and with newcomers at coffee hours and meetings or for special projects, like a fund raiser for Haiti, activities to "green" our property, a birthday or a baby shower, or a game night. We care for those among us and around us who are sick or in need. We open our facilities to community groups who need a place for lunch or a meeting, and to a fledgling Korean congregation with a growing membership. We support a neighborhood Food Closet, and our classrooms house a weekday Children's Center known as a loving place for pre-school children to grow together and be safe. Simply put, we are a church family in the best sense of both words.
Beyond our own walls, Covenant connects to our brothers and sisters in Christ in worship, work, and fellowship. We host a program of "Senior Chats," which draws participants from several local churches, and we worship with some of our sister churches in a summer "union worship" series. From our earliest years as a church, our members have served as leaders and active participants in the regional Presbytery of San Jose, the larger Synod of the Pacific, and the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
Our Mission Study reveals a strong consensus about who and what we are, even as it acknowledges how we value our differences: "Jesus told his disciples, 'Feed my sheep.' Fed by our joy in worship and fellowship, we are now called to share God's love. Our mission is clear: to grow - in faithfulness, energy, and spirituality, in welcoming newcomers, in caring for each other and cherishing our diverse gifts, in replenishing and sustaining our church family, and in reaching out in generous and loving ministry to do God's work in the world."
