"A new Covenant - We are called to God's love."
- From "A New Covenant," Covenant's 50th Anniversary Song
Welcome to Covenant Presbyterian Church of Palo Alto!
We invite people of all backgrounds, cultures, and ages to worship with us. Celebrate your faith in joyful worship, caring fellowship, and reaching out to share God's love. We are a friendly Presbyterian church family committed to growing daily in body and spirit, and to serving the mission Christ gave His disciples: to "build my church" and "feed my sheep."
We encourage you to explore our website to learn more about who we are and how we live out our commitment to serve God in our daily lives and our corporate ministry to the community around us and the world at large. Whether celebrating the sacrament of communion or a birthday, singing hymns in worship or to homebound members, stocking the food closet or enjoying snacks after worship, we find joy in coming together to be God's family in our corner of Palo Alto. Come worship with us and join the celebration of God's love.
The Season of Lent
As we approach the season of Lent, we look forward to several of the most meaningful services of worship in our liturgical year. From Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday we will gather as a community of believers to participate in the life, suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Transfiguration Sunday
In preparation for this season, we will have a special service on Sunday, February 19. On this Sunday known as Transfiguration Sunday we will have a joy-filled Gospel/Jazz Worship celebration with music that will move us from our ordinary liturgy to new heights.
Renowned saxophonist Eddie Minnifield will join us in worship. On that Sunday the text will center on the Transfiguration of Christ. After worship we will join together for a catered lunch and a time of fellowship.
Ash Wednesday Service
Lent officially begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22. On this day we will meet for a simple meal in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted for the meal and proceeds will go to the Food Closet. At 7:30 p.m. we will gather in the sanctuary for a quiet and meditative service concluding with the imposition of ashes. This service helps us to focus on the themes of sin and death in the light of God’s redeeming love in Jesus Christ. Traditionally the ashes are prepared by burning the palms from the previous year’s Palm Sunday service.
During Lent we are encouraged to spend time in prayer and Bible study. We are to seek opportunities for quiet reflection and times for service to others. These forty days might race by as any other six-week interval, but it is my hope that you and I will slow our pace somewhat and that we will find time to seek Christ in ways that open us to transformation and growth.
